As a landscape photographer, I wanted to capture the sunrise at 12,000 feet on the Continental Divide in the Colorado Rocky Mountains. The air was thin up there, and every breath felt like a struggle. My fingers were stiff from the cold, but I knew the view would be worth it if I could hold on until dawn.
I stood on a small ledge, watching as the dark, curving road snaked its way across the ridgeline below me. It twisted and turned, disappearing over the next peak like a trail leading into some wild, unknown place. Where does this road go, I wondered, and what adventures might lie just beyond those bends?
Then, the sky started to lighten, and the first rays of sun peeked over the horizon. The light spilled across the mountains, filling the valley with pink and gold, chasing away the shadows. The road below seemed to glow, stretching out like a path made of light, winding down into the vastness of the valley. I held my breath and clicked the shutter, capturing the sunlit peaks and that long, mysterious road reaching into the world beyond.
